Editorial & AI Policy

On this page

Indian Politics exists to give readers a calm, balanced account of Indian politics every day: what happened, what the competing positions are, and where to check the facts for themselves. This page sets out how we try to do that. It describes our aims and working practices; it is not a guarantee of outcome. Please read it together with our Disclaimer.

Our principles

Facts first. A story leads with what happened — who, what, when, where — before any interpretation, and in plain language.

Every side, equal footing. Where there is a genuine dispute, we set out the significant positions in a clearly marked Perspectives section, in no particular order, with comparable length and parallel wording. We do not describe one side’s position in neutral terms and another’s in loaded ones.

Attribution, always. Claims are attributed to the person, party, authority or document they come from. A claim being reported is not a claim being endorsed.

Sources linked. Wherever possible we link primary material — legislation, the Gazette, parliamentary records, Election Commission data, court orders, official releases — so readers can check for themselves.

Neutral language. We avoid labels, nicknames and adjectives that signal allegiance, and we describe parties, leaders and groups by their proper names and offices.

Labelled formats. Every piece is marked as News, Explainer, Analysis or Fact check so readers know what kind of writing it is. Analysis contains interpretation; news does not aim to.

Independence. We have no affiliation with any political party, candidate, government or election body. We do not publish paid political content; if we ever publish sponsored material on any subject, it will be clearly labelled.

How we use AI

We use artificial intelligence tools throughout our work, and we want readers to know it plainly:

  • Research — gathering and summarising public records, official documents, statements and published reports.
  • Drafting and editing — producing, restructuring, condensing and copy-editing text, headlines and summaries.
  • Fact-checking — cross-checking names, dates, figures, quotations and claims against sources using AI tools and research.
  • Formatting and distribution — preparing summaries, “at a glance” points and newsletter versions.

Decisions about what to publish are made by the publisher. However, AI tools can make mistakes — including inventing facts, quotes or sources — and our checks will not catch every error. That is why every story links its sources, carries a note on how it was prepared, and is published as general information rather than as a claim of truth. See the Disclaimer.

We do not use AI to fabricate quotations, create synthetic images or audio of real people, or simulate events. Any illustrative image that is not a photograph will be described as such.

No bylines

Stories are published under the Website’s name rather than individual bylines. Our work is produced through a combined process of research, AI-assisted drafting and verification, and the Website as an organisation is responsible for what it publishes.

Corrections

We want to get things right and to be open when we don’t.

  • If we find, or are told about, a material error, we will review it and, where we agree, correct the story and add a dated note in its Corrections & updates section explaining what changed.
  • Minor fixes (spelling, formatting, broken links) may be made without a note.
  • If a story is substantially wrong, we may withdraw it and explain why.
  • Newsletters cannot be recalled once sent; the Website always carries the current version of a story.

To report an error, use our Grievance Redressal process or email saina.bisht@happychases.com with the link to the story and what you believe is wrong. Corrections are made in good faith and without admission of liability.

Right of reply

If you or your organisation is the subject of a story and you believe your position has been omitted or misrepresented, write to us. We will consider publishing your response or adding it to the story’s Perspectives section.

Advertising and independence

The Website is free to read and is funded by advertising served by Google AdSense. Advertisements are selected automatically by Google, not by us, and are clearly labelled “Advertisement”. Advertisers — including political parties, candidates and governments, if their ads appear — have no say in what we cover or how we cover it. Advertisements never appear inside our newsletter.

Standards we look to

We voluntarily look to the Norms of Journalistic Conduct issued by the Press Council of India and the Code of Ethics for publishers of news and current affairs content under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, as guides to good practice, including on accuracy, fairness, privacy and the reporting of sub judice matters.
